Sotair® Adult Training Device

Train to immediately recognize and fix fast, forceful bagging and adjust your technique.

Sotair® is a flow control device that helps you feel when you squeeze a BVM too fast or too forcefully — then adjust your technique based on the lung condition and airway needs.

Built for adult BVM training, simulation, and education, Sotair® adds flow-control feedback without screens, dials, or added cognitive load.

PRODUCT & SAFETY INFORMATION

The Sotair® Adult Training Device is designed for training, simulation, and education only. It is not intended for clinical use, field deployment, or patient care.

Sotair® is SafeBVM’s award-winning flow-control platform, supported by funding from the

  • American Heart Association (AHA)
  • National Institutes of Health (NIH)
  • National Science Foundation (NSF)
  • United States Department of Defense (DoD)

The training device fits between a manual resuscitator and a facemask or airway. It limits inspiratory flow to approximately 55 L/min and provides immediate tactile, auditory, and visual feedback when you squeeze too fast.

This helps practice more controlled, consistent manual ventilation before you are under pressure in the field.

Learn Sotair® in 30 seconds

Trigger the alarm
1
Trigger the alarm

Squeeze the bag fast and forcefully. Sotair's alarm is tactile, audible, and visible: the bag will feel rigid, you may hear the valve collapse, and you will see the valve close.

Release immediately
2
Release immediately

If the alarm triggers, stop squeezing and release the bag. Do not continue squeezing once the alarm is activated.

Slow your squeeze
3
Slow your squeeze

Try again with a slower, more controlled squeeze. If Sotair keeps triggering, slow your squeeze down further until the alarm no longer activates.

Find the sweet spot
4
Find the sweet spot

Aim for a smooth squeeze over about 1 second, near Sotair's alarm threshold, while avoiding repeated alarm activation.

Trusted by trainers and educators working to improve manual ventilation.

Used by prehospital, inhospital, military, educators and trainers to teach flow control, reduce variability, and build better BVM technique.

Bobby Vasquez, MA

I have never felt a BVM device that will give this kind of immediate feedback. It instantly helps identify and refine ventilation technique. This is amazing for training and all services need this in the field!

Sarah Herman, MO

We are missing flow control on our bag valve masks. I teach CPR courses and this is an amazing addition. Such a simple solution for a big problem.

Grace Newberry, FL

I like how it is simple enough that anyone will be able to use this proficiently in an emergency situation.

Alex Warson, MI

Every BVM needs this tool in training and in field use. I bought this to show my service and so far, everyone loves it for training. We are looking to get this for field use.

Michelle Rodriguez, CA

Made me more confident for manual ventilation in the field. Happy we aren't adding more technology that is difficult to set up in an emergency situation.

Ted Smith, MO

I first found out about the Sotair device because a neighboring service adopted it for clinical use. After seeing and playing with the device myself, it makes a lot of sense. Simple and a no-brainer for training and clinical use. Their training platform, SotairIQ, is also worth noting.

Violet Mueller, IL

My RTs got this device immediately. Flow control makes a lot of sense - it allows the provider to produce different pressures for different disease states, automatically. Should be used on all crash carts in the hospital.

Anthony Meyers, TX

Simple solutions are the best. We tried volume measurement devices but they ended up not being used due to complicated setups. We rely heavily on Capnography but this would be a good addition to help rookies and providers with bad habits control their breaths.

Chris Sandusky

MUST HAVE TRAINING DEVICE FOR THE BVM. Been using Sotair in all of my training classes for years!

Mitchell Stock, MA

Great device.

Isaac Waterman, NY

The first time I saw this device was at their flow control workshop. Great session and background on flow control. Never realized what all goes into good manual ventilation.

Manny Stewart, CO

We use this on the rig - it does what it's intended to do. Used it first during training, then adopted Sotair in the field along with SotairIQ for training.

Esmerelda Perry, MI

Our volume measurement devices were unreliable with really cold or hot weather. I like how this is so simple. Great addition to the tools we already use.

Carlos Cantone, AZ

Saw this at EMS WORLD. I thought the bag was broken. Turns out, I ventilate too aggressively. Great training tool.

Allison Bridges, IN

Great trainer for new providers.

Chris Stein, FL

Got one for myself to train on - our department is looking into using these in the field.

FAQs

Common objections, handled.

No. The Sotair® Adult Training Device is for training, simulation, and education only. It is not for clinical use, field deployment, or patient care. For clinical units, please contact SafeBVM at info@safebvm.com

Contact SafeBVM for the FDA 510(k)-cleared adult, single-patient-use clinical Sotair® device.

The clinical Sotair® device is FDA 510(k)-cleared for adult, single-patient use. This product page is for the Sotair® Adult Training Device, which is intended for training and simulation only.

Sotair® limits inspiratory flow to approximately 55 L/min and provides feedback when providers squeeze the BVM too fast or too forcefully. This helps providers control breaths and guide them on how to squeeze the bag correctly.

Sotair® is a flow-control device, not a pressure-limiting pop-off valve. Unlike pop-off valves, which vent gas when higher pressure is needed—such as during airway obstruction or chest compressions—Sotair® preserves delivered volume while keeping pressures within safer limits. This ensures adequate ventilation while minimizing pressure related injuries.

Yes. Sotair connects to standard adult 15/22 mm BVM connectors and is compatible with standard airway accessories.

Yes. Sotair® can be used with masks, supraglottic airways, and endotracheal tubes.

Sotair® provides resistance only when inspiratory flow exceeds approximately 55 L/min. The goal is to help providers recognize and correct fast, forceful bagging. Providers can still hyperventilate with more controlled breaths if they need to.

Basic use can be taught in approximately 30 seconds.

Each order includes access to SafeBVM’s training videos and tutorials, and access to the live Mastering Flow Control in Manual Ventilation workshop for 1 hour of CAPCE credit. Additional information is provided about SotairIQ, a comprehensive ventilation training and monitoring platform.

These resources help teams quickly learn how to use Sotair®, recognize and fix fast, forceful bagging, and understand how flow control applies to manual ventilation techniques.

The Sotair® Adult Training Device can be used across multiple training sessions. Replace the device if flow rates exceed 60 L/min or if the device is damaged. Clinical Sotair® devices are adult, single-patient use.

Bulk pricing is available for both training and clinical Sotair® devices. Request a quote at info@safebvm.com.
